Ferndale Mastisol Adhesive 052348 (0.67 mL vial) is a clear, non-irritating, and non-water-soluble liquid adhesive designed to secure dressings, tapes, medical devices, and ostomy appliances with superior holding power. Known for being 7–10 times stickier than Compound Tincture of Benzoin, Mastisol provides long-lasting adhesion that reduces the risk of dressing displacement, wound exposure, and device dislodgement.
What is Mastisol and What is Mastisol Used For?
Mastisol is a sterile medical adhesive that creates a strong occlusive barrier, helping minimize infection risk while improving nurse efficiency by reducing unplanned dressing changes. It is widely used in wound care, ostomy care, and IV site securement. Unlike many adhesives, Mastisol is latex-free, gentle on the skin, and compatible with chlorhexidine gluconate (CHG).
How to Use Mastisol Liquid Adhesive
1. Clean & Dry: Ensure the skin is clean and dry before application.
2. Crack the Vial: Place the sterile blister pack on a hard surface and gently crush the inner ampule to release the adhesive.
3. Apply: Remove the vial, squeeze gently, and apply Mastisol around the area where the dressing or tape will adhere (avoid direct contact with wounds).
4. Allow to Dry: Let Mastisol dry for 20–30 seconds before placing the dressing for maximum hold.
How to Remove Mastisol Liquid Adhesive
For easy removal, use Ferndale Detachol Adhesive Remover. This ensures safe, gentle removal without irritating the skin.
Additional Safety Information
• Is Mastisol Flammable? Yes. Mastisol contains alcohol and should be kept away from open flames.
• Can You Use Mastisol on Cuts? Mastisol should be applied around, not directly on, open wounds.
• Mastisol Allergy: Although rare, users with known sensitivities should test carefully and discontinue if irritation occurs.
With Mastisol, you can count on reliable, extended adhesion for the most difficult dressings—even in sweaty or high-moisture conditions—without leaving stains on the skin.
