What Is the Best Clothing To Wear With Incontinence?
Posted by Jeanne Lowry on Feb 2nd 2023
One of the biggest decisions someone with incontinence has to make after a diagnosis is the products to use to handle the condition. The next choice they have to make often gets forgotten, and that is the type of clothing to wear while dealing with incontinence. You’ll need to consider many aspects for this decision, so we’re here to help you make the best choice.
Baggy Clothes
Whether you use a catheter or briefs, your number one goal is likely to ensure no one can notice you’re wearing them. This also applies to tear-away pull-ups, which are more discrete than standard incontinence briefs. Even if you are open and honest about your condition, you might not want the world to know that you wear these products.
Wear baggy clothes whenever possible. Loose-fitting pants and skirts will make it nearly impossible to tell you’re wearing underneath. Plus, these types of clothes are typically easy to get out of in case you’re ever rushing to the bathroom.
If you like to wear tight pants on occasion, wear a coat or sweater that day. If these articles of clothing are long enough, they should be able to easily obscure any bulge you might have in your pants, and other people will be none the wiser.
Tight Undergarments
No matter what type of clothes you wear, one thing you can wear to obscure your incontinence briefs or catheter is tight-fitting undergarments. Yoga pants or compression shorts will hold everything in place so it doesn’t stick out as much. Of course, you should always wear something looser over your undergarments, but they will help you keep things discrete.
On top of that, tight clothing over your incontinence products should reduce the possibility of leaks. While this isn’t a guarantee, it’s worth noting if you’ve struggled with this issue before.
Dark Colors or Patterns
Even though we’ve mostly focused on the best clothing to wear with incontinence, we must consider the colors and patterns of these garments. Even though leaks aren’t common, you need to prepare for them on the slim chance they occur. That means wearing dark clothes.
Potential leaks won’t show up well on dark clothing, which means you’ll be able to slip away unnoticed to deal with any issues. Clothing with dark or extravagant patterns will also work because it’s hard to notice a leak with all the other shapes and designs overlapping it.
