5 Urological Accessories You Should Have

When dealing with incontinence, you need to be ready for anything. That means you must have the right items on hand to deal with any situations that arise. Here’s a list of the most important urological accessories you should have available for yourself at all times.
1. External Catheters
While owning extra catheters is vital, having a couple of external catheters available is never a bad idea, regardless of the type you normally use. Sometimes complications arise in which you can’t insert an internal catheter properly.
Even though you’ll need to go to your doctor to figure out what’s wrong, in the meantime, you’ll still need to wear a catheter. An external one can act as a temporary replacement until you figure out what’s going on.
2. Leg Bags With Holder
If you typically use intermittent catheters, you probably won’t have any leg bags on hand. If you must use an external catheter for a while, having these leg bags will allow you to remain mobile during this time. Just be sure to also get yourself a leg bag holder so that you can attach your pouches directly to your leg.
3. Overnight Bags
Another urological accessory you should have is an overnight urine bag. These are typically much larger than your standard leg bag. The reason for their size is so your pouch can hold more urine without overfilling. If you tend to go multiple times throughout the night, you’ll need something with extra space so you don’t have to get up in order to empty it.
4. Extension Tubing
If you normally use a catheter that connects to a urological bag, it’s never a bad idea to stock up on extra tubing. These products usually come in multiple sizes. The longer ones are great for nighttime usage, while the shorter ones are easier to store away and take with you on the go. Either way, you never know when the extra tube length will come in handy.
5. Irrigation System
Regardless of your catheter types, one urology medical device all users should have is an irrigation kit. These systems are designed to help unplug a blocked-up catheter. You need to ensure you’re careful when using them so that you don’t injure yourself, but each kit comes with instructions and plenty of saline solution to get the job done. After usage, your catheter should work like new again.
